Second Chance 13

If you haven’t read all of Second Chance you might want to start at the beginning.

Second Chance 13

Sam stops near the building by the parked trucks where he saw Tatyana running.  “We have to keep her from getting to the phone,” he tells Sandy as they get out of the van and head towards the trucks, “we’ll grab her, and take her back to the cabin.”  He didn’t know what they were going to do with her after that, but he decided to worry about it later.  They see Tatyana hiding behind a truck and quickly run towards her, relived that it was going to be so easy to catch her!

If Dimitri’s attention hadn’t been focused on the van as he pulled into the truck stop, he would have seen two people slump to the ground after having their heads slammed together!  Tatyana couldn’t believe these two were so stupid to fall for the same trick twice; what kind of kidnappers were they?  Now she could call Walter to get her out of this mess.

As Dimitri is standing near the van, he sees someone walking towards him, “Tatyana!” he yells as he runs to her, “I never thought I’d see you again!”  Tatyana is surprised to see Dimitri, but she’s shocked to see him so emotional; he does care about her!  “I didn’t realize how much I needed you until you were gone,” he says, “I’ll never let you out of my sight again!”

As Tatyana tells Dimitri about what has been happening, she leads him to the two kidnappers that are slowly starting to move around.  “How much did they demand for my release?” she asks Dimitri, glad to be able to talk to him again.  “Nothing,” he says, “they didn’t kidnap you for the money.”  “What, then why?”  “Walter dumped her, using the same excuse he’s always used, that his wife found out about her, and he had to end it.  They thought you were Walter’s wife, and she wanted to get rid of you, so she could have a second chance with him.”  Tatyana laughed, “That explains a lot, I’ve never seen such lousy kidnappers!  So what’s his story, why is he helping her?”  Dimitri had been wondering the same thing, who was this guy?  “I don’t know,” he said, “let’s find out.”

When Sam sees Tatyana walking towards him, hand in hand with a huge man, he knows that it’s all over.  He grabs Sandy to protect her and says, “It’s all my fault, she had nothing to do with it!”  Dimitri translates what Sam has said for Tatyana, and as they share a surprised look, he asks Sam, “So, why did you do it?”  Sandy looks at Sam, as he holds her in his arms, and says, “He did it for me, to help me get Walter back.”  Dimitri was tired of the way Walter treated women and told Sandy, “He isn’t married; this is his sister, Tatyana.  He always tells his girlfriends that story about his wife when he’s tired of them.”  Sandy, with tears in her eyes, looks at Sam and says, “I’m sorry for getting you into this mess, I’m such a fool, can you ever forgive me?”

As Sam is holding Sandy while she cries in his arms, Dimitri pulls Tatyana aside.  He starts to tell to her what’s been said, but she’s already figured it out, and tells Dimitri, “Let them go, Walter doesn’t need to know that she did this.  I’ll tell him that two men kidnapped me, and I escaped.”  Dimitri smiles at her and says, “Are you sure?”  “Yes,” she says, as she looks lovingly back at him, “Everyone deserves a second chance.”
