Looking back at my childhood, I realize we were poor but everyone around us was in the same condition, so it didn’t really matter. This story is by someone born into extreme poverty. Douglas Wallace lived in rural Tennessee with his mother and seven siblings. His father was an abusive alcoholic that drifted in and out of his life, creating turmoil and providing very little support. Douglas decided at an early age that he wanted to be a lawyer even though the odds were stacked against him. Driven by determination and inspired by a message he received as a boy, “everything will be alright”, he succeeded.
The journey through Doug’s life is filled with tragedy and hardships that would make the average person give up and accept their fate, but this is not about an average person. This is about someone who rises above the obstacles set in front of him and improves the quality of his life, while helping to make his family’s life better.
This is a story that I will remember for a long time and I’m sure I’ll come back and read it again and again. I would highly recommend this, and will be surprised if it doesn’t become a best seller.
